Hybrid acoustic/electric guitars built with hollow bodies and Fender's Stringed Instrument Resonance System, they have - despite some initial skepticism and controversy - gone on to become one of the industry's most acclaimed new designs in recent years.
A few weeks back, Fender recruited two of guitardom's most exciting young players - blues-rock revivalist Tyler Bryant and Nashville ace Daniel Donato - to duke it out on the Acoustasonic Strat and Tele. You can watch the impressive results above.
Bryant takes the Strat and Donato, unsurprisingly, straps on the Tele. Their licks are tasty, bursting with melody and beautifully showcase their respective strengths, without ever lapsing into showboat territory. What was that about the guitar dying, again?
