Livid’s Guitar Wing is a versatile MIDI control surface that puts effects and controls right at your fingertips. While we’ve seen videos of the Guitar Wing in action, we haven’t seen one quite as entertaining and musical as this one.
Igor Stolarsky created this track with his Schecter C1 Classic using a Fractal Audio Axe-Fx II processor, a Fishman TriplePlay MIDI pickup, a Livid Guitar Wing and Ableton Live recording software. Toss in a few soft synths and some solid chops and—voila!—you get live EDM hybrid guitar.
Stolarsky—who goes by the handle thebishopgame on YouTube—calls the song “Good Morning, Sinners,” and we can’t think of a better track to wake up to after a night of debauchery.
“Everything aside from the drums is being performed live via the Fishman TriplePlay midi pickup, Livid Guitar Wing and Ableton Live,” Stolarsky writes. “The syncopated bass hits in the A section are clips triggered via foot controller, everything else is either performed live or looped from the performance.”
The best part comes around 1:20 where Stolarsky does a triplet run up the fretboard and tops it off with a bit of autochop.
For those unfamiliar with the Livid Guitar Wing, it’s a MIDI control surface that easily attaches to guitars and basses and communicates wirelessly with your computer or USB-MIDI host. It features a 3-D motion sensor, three LED touch faders, pressure-sensitive pads, function buttons, slide switches and more, putting some great control features at your finger tips.
Check it out. And enjoy.
