Eric Johnson has won essentially every imaginable honor that could be bestowed upon a guitar player, and is easily one of the most influential of the modern era. His name is synonymous with exquisite tone. His hybrid picking style inspired legions. His complex harmonic and melodic M.O. is instantly recognizable as his own.
Johnson has a signature everything in the gear world. Fender will soon release its fourth signature Johnson Stratocaster. Part of the Stories Collection, the guitar is modeled after an instrument Johnson frequently used early in his career. Johnson certainly made his name as a Strat cat, but he’s also able to drop the pick and transform into a bona fide acoustic fingerstylist. He’s got a sweet voice, and oh yeah, the dude is pretty fantastic on the piano too!
Johnson also has a new release dropping on February 28. EJ Vol. II is an acoustic and electric affair, featuring a similar balance of new material and classic covers to the one displayed in 2016's all-acoustic EJ Vol I.
On January 14, Johnson will showcase all of his considerable talents via his decades-deep repertoire, which ranges from contemporary fingerstyle acoustic magic to classic Stratocaster masterpieces like "Cliffs of Dover" and "Zap,” on this special tour, dubbed Eric Johnson: Classics Present and Past. What else could you ask for as a guitar fan?
