Schecter has announced the worldwide release of its Prince Cloud replica guitar.
Previously only available for purchase in-person at Prince's Paisley Park mansion, the replica is modeled after the custom guitar Minneapolis luthier Dave Rusan made for Prince in 1983. Prince would go on to immortalize the guitar during his performance in the film Purple Rain.
The idea for the guitar came from a custom bass that Prince bought for his friend, André Cymone, back in 1979. Years later, Prince brought the bass to Knut Koupee Music in Minneapolis, where Rusan worked, and asked the luthier to duplicate the bass' unique shape.
Prince had the Cloud guitar remade many times in different colors and finishes, and the instrument re-emerged several times over the course of his career. Over the decades, Prince commissioned Schecter to repair his Clouds and manufacture new replicas for his use.
The Schecter Prince Cloud replica guitar is available now for $1,750.
