Metallica play “Fade to Black” at Las Vegas Sphere as they change up setlist for their third residency show
The Ride the Lightning classic was among the changes to the setlist, which also featured “Orion” in place of “The Call of Ktulu”
Metallica made a couple of changes to their setlist for the third show of their Las Vegas Sphere residency on October 8. The most notable addition was “Fade to Black,” from 1984’s Ride the Lightning [via Setlist.fm].
The residency opened October 1, with the second show following on October 3. The October 8 set was largely unchanged from opening night, with “Fade to Black” replacing “The Day That Never Comes” and “Orion” taking the place of “The Call of Ktulu.” Both “Orion” and “The Call of Ktulu” were dedicated to late Metallica bass guitarist Cliff Burton.
The band opened with “Battery,” marking the first time it had led a Metallica set since 2014. Several other songs also returned after lengthy absences: “Devil’s Dance” hadn’t been played since 2008, “...And Justice for All” since 2014, “The Outlaw Torn” since 2019 and “Now That We’re Dead” since 2021.
Metallica’s next Sphere show is Saturday, October 10, with more dates scheduled.
