John Lennon played only two full-length concerts after the Beatles — now, both are coming to Blu-ray
The newly restored ‘Power to the People’ captures Lennon and Yoko Ono’s legendary 1972 Madison Square Garden shows, with a deluxe edition also including the ‘One to One: John & Yoko’ documentary.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1972 Madison Square Garden concerts will arrive on Blu-ray April 9, 2027, in a deluxe four-disc set that also includes the award-winning documentary One to One: John & Yoko. The announcement was made October 9, on what would have been Lennon’s 86th birthday.
The set brings together Power to the People, a newly restored and remixed version of the concerts, and One to One: John & Yoko, directed by Kevin Macdonald and Sam Rice-Edwards. A two-disc edition will also be available. Both versions are available for preorder.
The concerts featured Lennon and Ono with the Plastic Ono Band, Elephant’s Memory and special guests. The two sold-out performances drew a combined audience of 40,000 and raised more than $1.5 million for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities — equivalent to approximately $11.5 million in 2026. They were the only full-length concerts Lennon performed with Ono after the Beatles’ breakup.
The restored concert film features performances of Lennon songs including “New York City,” “Instant Karma! (We All Shine On),” “Imagine” and “Mother,” alongside Ono’s “Don’t Worry Kyoko” and “Open Your Box.” The set also includes renditions of the Beatles’ “Come Together” and Big Joe Turner’s “Hound Dog.” The finale of “Give Peace a Chance” brings Stevie Wonder, Sha Na Na, Melanie Safka-Schekeryk and other guests onstage.
Originally filmed by director Steve Gebhardt in 1972, Power to the People was reworked for its 2026 release under director Simon Hilton, with editing by Ben Wainwright-Pearce. Sean Ono Lennon produced the music, with Paul Hicks and Sam Gannon handling the mixing and engineering.
The restoration took more than 20 years. Original film negatives were cleaned, rejoined and retransferred before the footage was reordered, synchronized and edited into a multiscreen presentation. The audio multitracks were also restored and remixed, with the new editions offering high-definition stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos.
The accompanying One to One: John & Yoko documentary explores the couple’s first year in New York City and the creativity and activism that led to the 1972 performances.
