Hot on the heels of naming the best guitar in his extensive collection, Joe Bonamassa has now singled out the best guitar-ist.
The winner? Eric Gales.
In a caption accompanying an Instagram photo of Gales and Bonamassa onstage together during the latter’s Keeping the Blues Alive cruise, Bonamassa wrote, “Our best Ballad of John Henry of all time. Thank you to Eric Gales for showing us all how it’s done!
“You are the best guitarist in blues rock and that the world has right now. Epic in every way!”
Gales, for his part, first burst on the scene in the early Nineties as a teenage phenom with his own blues-rock unit, the Eric Gales Band. His career has gone through its ups and downs over the years, but he recently released a stellar new solo album, The Bookends, which featured collaborations with Doyle Bramhall II, Beth Hart and others.
Furthermore, Bonamassa isn’t the only guitar legend to hail Gales’ playing. Jane’s Addiction’s Dave Navarro has been another long-time booster, once tweeting, “How Eric Gales isn’t the hugest name in rock guitar is a total mystery.”
