This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no foolin’ around! Actually, it’s going to be one hell of a year-end hootenanny when Talking Heads luminaries Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew bring their wild revelry to San Francisco's Warfield Theatre.
The two have been celebrating their seminal work on the Heads’ iconic 1980 album, Remain in Light – and the rest of the band's killer catalogue – to glowing praise, and they’re capping off 2023 out west with a four-date Remain in Light New Year’s Eve run – along with X – in the Golden State. The mini-tour starts in San Diego on December 28 and culminates in Napa on December 31. Guitar Player is proud to partner with Goldenvoice to welcome them to the City by the Bay on Saturday, December 30.
Belew is über familiar to the Guitar Player readership from his storied tenures playing and singing with Frank Zappa, David Bowie, and King Crimson, as well as from oodles of solo efforts and, of course, his celebrated stint with the Talking Heads. Mostly associated with Stratocasters and Parker Flys, the “Twang Bar King” is also a perennial favorite of freak guitar zealots around the SF Bay who have frequented multiple shows of his we’ve presented in the past.
We’re looking forward to the pleasure of hearing him teamed up with the multi-talented Harrison, who's a fantastic guitar player in his own right, and a creative keyboardist and capable vocalist, to boot.
A large and talented backing band – featuring Julie Slick from Belew’s band on bass as well as members of the disco/funk band band Cool Cool Cool – will be on hand to back Harrison and Belew.
“A joyful show of Talking Heads songs you know and love performed by a hot, eleven-piece ensemble,” says Belew, “You can’t help but dance and go home with a smile on your face.”
Harrison adds, “Remain in Light is a high point in my career. Adrian and I had often discussed the magic of the 1980 tour and the sheer joy it brought to audiences. It is such a delight to see and bring that joy once again.”
Adding further intrigue to the evening is an opening set by SoCal punk legends X, featuring the rockabilly-on-steroids guitar style of Billy Zoom.
