New York City stalwart Wayne Krantz is heading west in mid September with KCL – consisting of the phenomenal fusion guitarist along with Tim Lefebvre (Tedeschi Trucks Band, David Bowie) on bass and groove guru Keith Carlock (Oz Noy, Sting) on drums.
Guitar Player is proud to welcome Krantz back to the renowned jazz room at Yoshi’s in Oakland, California.
Krantz is an expert at captivating rhythms and weaving creative melodies amid harmonically complex chords and motifs. His slinky Strat-style sound is recognizable in any context, and Krantz has a penchant for reworking a vast variety of popular tunes from Nine Inch Nails to Talking Heads, Ice Cube, and MC Hammer.
Krantz’s sideman credits include Steely Dan, Michael Brecker, and Billy Cobham, and he’s got an extensive solo catalog as well. Much of his recent output is on Abstract Logix including 2009’s Krantz Carlock Lefebvre. They also form the core for Krantz’s 2020 release, Write Out Your Head (Bandcamp), which is entirely composed rather than highly improvisational like much of Krantz’ material.
Check out video of the three captured earlier this year live at the Bitter End.
Krantz is all about pocket perfection, and he released an app called Humonome in 2020 designed to help players develop a strong internal clock.
According to Krantz’ web site, “Humanome teaches you to hear an irregular tempo and adjust your playing to it, as you must always do to stay in the pocket with other non-metronomic human beings.”
We can’t wait to hear Krantz, Lefebvre, and Carlock dig into deep grooves and harmonically rich improvisations featuring tons of virtuosic guitar at Yoshi’s in Oakland on the second Tuesday in September. Get your tickets here.
For a chance to win a pair of tickets to see GP Presents Wayne Krantz, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Krantz” in the subject and simply include a sentence about yourself and why you want to go.
Phone contact greatly appreciated for confirmation.
Winner must provide their own transportation to Yoshi’s in Oakland, California on Tuesday, September 13, and have their own accommodations in the Bay Area.
Best of luck!
