As a gigging musician, I like my guitar strings fresh, but maintaining that new string sound means buying a lot of them! Here are the internet's best string deals to keep the cost down
Strings may not be the most exciting purchase, but they are still an important part of your tone. That new string sound can be expensive to maintain, but fortunately, there are plenty of deals to help offset the cost.
There are a couple of schools of thought when it comes to how fresh your strings should be. Those like Eric Johnson like them to be played in, whilst others, such as Tommy Emmanuel, have been known to change strings for every show.
Personally, I'm of the latter camp. I prefer the extra high-end bite of newer strings and the peace of mind that they are less likely to snap halfway through a gig. The downside? Keeping them fresh costs a little more. I get around this by taking advantage of deals whenever I can, so here's a roundup of the best I've found this Cyber Monday so that you can do the same.

The benefit of coated strings is their ability to maintain that fresh sound for longer. They feel a little different under the fingers, but it's worth a try for every guitarist. Elixir is a brand at the forefront of this game, and their Nanoweb-coated strings are currently available at 25% off in both 9 and 10 gauges at Sweetwater.

More coated strings, this time of the acoustic variety. The benefits are the same with Elixir's Nanoweb coating said to increase longevity. Again, the coated feel is different under the fingers, meaning that it won't be for everyone, but it's worth a try. Particularly with a 25% saving on this 12-53 gauge set at Guitar Center.

Pete cut his teeth as a guitarist by spending over a decade playing in both function and original bands whilst teaching during the week. He now uses this experience, combined with degrees in Music and Web Design, plus a general addiction to all things guitar gear, to write reviews for Guitar Player, MusicRadar, and Guitar World. When not experimenting with his pedalboard, he will spend any extra time he has perfecting his extensive coffee-making setup.
