Whitesnake has released the official music video for “The Gypsy,” from The Purple Album, which was issued in May, and you can watch it below.
The album contains covers of Deep Purple songs from the period of 1973 to 1976, when Whitesnake singer David Coverdale fronted the classic rock group.
The project came into being after Coverdale failed in his bid to reunite with his former Deep Purple bandmate Ritchie Blackmore following the death of Purple keyboardist Jon Lord in 2012. Rather than abandon the plan entirely, Coverdale decided to revisit his favorite Deep Purple cuts with his band, which includes former Winger guitarist Reb Beach and former Night Ranger guitarist Joel Hoekstra.
“I took a little time to think about it,” Coverdale says. “I spoke to my musicians, and everybody was incredibly positive, so it was all systems go.” He added that it's “a huge thank-you from me to Deep Purple for the opportunity I was given over 40 years ago.”
Blackmore, for his part, recently announced he will briefly return to rock and roll with a set of shows in 2016.
