Izzy Stradlin has confirmed that he will not be involved in the Guns N’ Roses reunion featuring founding members Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan.
Stradlin tells Rolling Stone that he is neither playing shows with Guns N’ Roses nor recording for the group.
“At this point in time, I will not be playing at any of the April 2016 GNR shows,” Stradlin told Rolling Stone via email. “I’ve also not been in the studio recording or writing with any of the others recently. There is so much speculation, but so very little info, [that] I thought I should reach out.”
Guns N’ Roses former manager Alan Niven fueled rumors about Stradlin’s involvement last week when he said the guitarist was in the studio recording with McKagan.
“Duff and Izzy were in the studio before Christmas doing stuff,” Niven said. “At a casual glance I think they’ve got at least a couple of tracks down.”
Shortly after Niven made his comment, Stradlin tweeted about his status with the group using the Twitter account @IzzyStradlin999.
At the time, however, no one was certain if the account was actually Stradlin’s. He confirmed it was in his email to Rolling Stone. This morning, Stradlin confirmed it further by sharing a short video of himself singing Jonathan Edwards’ “Sunshine.”
In related news, L.A. publicist and band friend Arlett Vereecke says Slash has been working in the studio on the new material.
“I know they’re doing some recording,” Vereecke tells Classic Rock. “They’re definitely doing something there in the studio. Axl hasn’t been there, but Slash is definitely in there and it’s not for anyone else.”
Guns N’ Roses have so far confirmed six reunion shows.
