“The culmination of everything I've learned over the last 25 years.” Lindsey Buckingham teases new solo album after burying the hatchet with Mick Fleetwood
It will be his first new music since 2021
Lindsey Buckingham says he has a new solo album on the way, breaking a five-year dry spell.
The former Fleetwood Mac guitarist teased details in a social media post in which he said 25 years of learning have gone into the record.
The record will be his eighth solo effort and first new music since 2021’s Lindsey Buckingham. That album came three years after he was ousted from Fleetwood Mac, a move which prompted former Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Neil Finn to take his place for the band’s final shows.
Buckingham, who replaced Bob Welch in Fleetwood Mac in 1975, helped lead the group through its most successful period. He’s also produced seven solo albums of his own, starting with 1981’s Law and Order, and it’s those experiences operating away from band settings that he’s drawing on for his latest.
“This new album is the culmination of everything that I've learned from making solo albums over the last 25 years,” he says in a video posted to X. “I feel like this particular album is the culmination of holding a certain line ethically and idealistically that I've managed to maintain for many years. So I'm really excited about this piece of work.”

Buckingham has been in the news of late following his acrimonious split with Fleetwood Mac in 2018. Last March he was pictured in the studio with Mick Fleetwood, who is recording his first album since Fleetwood Mac ended. Swedish producer Carl Falk, with whom Fleetwood is recording the album, had called the moment “unreal” as the pair joined forces for the first time in seven years.
More recently, Buckingham saw the reissue of Buckingham Nicks, the album he and former Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks recorded in 1973. That record proved pivotal in the duo joining Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and continue composing together through their breakup. Like Buckingham, Nicks has enjoyed a successful solo career with hits that include "Edge of Seventeen" and "Quit Draggin' My Heart Around."

Although Buckingham's departure from Fleetwood Mac was a disappointment for many, for Mike Campbell, who was in mourning following the death of Tom Petty, the gig was a lifeline, as he recently revealed.
