Richard Hoover launched the Santa Cruz Guitar Company in 1976, and has never strayed from his original objective of using traditional lutherie methods in an intimate team setting to build some of the most sophisticated acoustic guitars available today. His ethical values are apparent in his practices... he uses either old-growth or responsibly harvested, sustainable yield tone wood, and sells exclusively to independently owned, mom and pop guitar shops throughout the world, avoiding big box chain stores, ensuring that the entire Santa Cruz Guitar acquisition experience is personal and rewarding. Famous players include Eric Clapton, Brad Paisley, John Fogerty, Tony Rice and many, many more.

Santa Cruz Guitar Company is currently building about 500 guitars a year, with a talented team of 16 luthiers, 4 administrators and 3 shop dogs.
