Hurricane Bells' 2009 debut Tonight Is the Ghost was a favorite around the Guitar Aficionado offices. Their newest offering Tides and Tales, out today, is receiving similarly heavy airplay. Frontman (and sole full-time Bells member) Steve Schiltz makes the most of an early-sixties Fender Jazzmaster and various other pawn-shop prizes to create compelling textures and add teeth to his indie pop tales of hope and wonder. On the uptempo rocker "Possibilities" he also reveals that when he so desires, he can avant-shred with the best of them.
Here's a video for the album's first single, a Byrds, La's, and Teenage Fanclub-inspired number called "The Ghost Of Her."
