How to Play Guitar Faster Without Much Effort

Pretty much every guitarist wants to play faster. Even if “shredding” isn’t your goal, you probably appreciate the need for a little extra speed every now and then to add some flash or another kind of expression to your playing.

In his latest video, Jim Lill demonstrates how to “Play Guitar Faster Without Much Effort.” His “triplet trick” exercise involves four basic ingredients:

1. Harmonized scales
2. Hybrid Picking
3. Pull-offs
4. Triplets

As Jim notes, you can use this in many keys and styles.

After he explains the technique, Jim demonstrates it with some blazing-fast hot licks. Grab your guitar and put this trick to work in your own playing.

As always, check out Jim’s YouTube channel for more of his great videos, many of which we’ve featured in here. Be sure to give his videos a “like” and leave a note of thanks.

In addition, take a look at his Guitar-Lick-A-Day Instagram, where you can learn a new lick every day, with tab available for each lick.

Then head over to Jim’s website, where you can find more lessons, MP3s and purchase his e-book, The Graphic Guide to Country Guitar.
