The Who turns 50 years old this year, and the band wants your help to mark its anniversary.
Pete and Roger will be doing their part by releasing a Greatest Hits collection on October 28, 2014, launching another Who tour, and curating a mammoth Who Hits 50 series of promotional, historical, and musical events.
To make the celebration as comprehensive as possible, the Who is asking fans and collectors across the planet to search their personal archives for rare home movies, bootlegs, photos, and other memorabilia. Believe it or not, rare finds do surface — even for a group that has been legendary and scrupulously documented for decades. In 2002, for example, a 1964 film, The High Numbers at the Railway Hotel, was discovered in a Netherlands loft. This footage offered a rare early peek at the "High Numbers" developing into the juggernaut that would be the Who.
If your item is selected, it will be fully credited on any releases that contain it, and the fan with the most astounding rarity will receive two VIP tickets to a show on the upcoming Who tour. Not a bad deal for rummaging through a few old boxes down in the garage, is it?
