In this video from the not-too-distant past, Ritchie Blackmore takes acoustic guitar in hand to perform some of his greatest Deep Purple riffs and explain the influences behind them.

The five riffs covered are “Black Night” from 1972’s Made in Japan,” “Speed King” from 1970’s Deep Purple in Rock, and “Smoke on the Water,” “Lazy” and “Highway Star” from 1972’s Machine Head. Some of the influences are rather surprising, so take a look.
