The great Leslie West celebrates a birthday today, and we can’t think of a better video to mark the occasion with than the one presented below. It shows West performing his Mountain hit “Mississippi Queen” with another guitar great, the one and only Peter Frampton.

The video starts off in hilarious fashion, as West enumerates Frampton’s many successes over the years: from his early notoriety as England’s “handsomest, prettiest” guitarist, to his tenure in Humble Pie and his solo career with Frampton’s Camel and the 1976 concert album Frampton Comes Alive!

“But the point to this story is,” West continues, “his manager’s dead. My manager’s dead. We had the same agent. He’s dead.

“What the fuck are we still doing here, Peter?”

Hear Frampton’s great response, followed by the most rip-roaring version of “Mississippi Queen” ever captured on video.

As we’ve reported, West has a new album, titled Soundcheck, coming out next month, featuring guest appearances by Frampton, Brian May and the late Jack Bruce. You can watch the album trailer and hear the album track “People Get Ready,” West’s cover of the Curtis Mayfield song.
