Super rock trio the Winery Dogs featuring guitarist/lead vocalist Richie Kotzen (Mr. Big, Poison), singular bass talent Billy Sheehan (David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, Steve Vai), and progressive drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theatre, Transatlantic) is burning up the road supporting its sophomore release, Hot Streak [Loud & Proud]. Guitar Player and Bass Player are happy to help present the band’s San Jose stop at the righteous RockBar Theater on November’s first Monday.

The Dogs’ musical virtuosity is off the charts, and the way they come together over a riff or a fill is especially impressive, but their vocals and compositional focus separate them from other chops-oriented bands. Kotzen’s voice is so wide-ranging and powerful that he could be mistaken for Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell at times.

“I feel we’ve taken the band to another level,” Kotzen says of Hot Streak. “The compositions are stronger on this album. I feel more connected lyrically and musically to what I did on this record than on the last one. We’ve widened the musical scope of the band on this record and moved it forward.”
