Foreigner scored a big hit in 1981 with the synthesizer-heavy ballad “Waiting for a Girl Like You.” But the song never made it any further than second place on the charts, due to an even bigger hit: Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical.”
TMZ spotted Foreigner waiting at LAX recently and decided to ask them if they had any bad feelings toward John for keeping one of their best-known songs from the top chart position.
Guitarist Mick Jones—who co-wrote the song with original Foreigner singer Lou Gramm—responds with an unintentionally funny comment. Current lead singer Kelly Hansen then runs with it, for a bit of sophomoric humor.
You can watch their answer in the video below, which is followed by videos of “Waiting for a Girl Like You” and, yes, “Physical.”
(Incidentally, the TMZ host misidentifies Jones as Foreigner’s keyboard player and appears to refer to Kelly Hansen as Scott Kelly.)
Foreigner are currently on tour with Def Leppard and Tesla. Their next stop is October 5 in St. Paul, MN. You can get their complete itinerary here.
And in case you couldn’t tell, it’s a slow news day. So far.
