Hear Frank Zappa Play "I Ain't Got No Heart" at His Final US Show
48-track recordings of the March 25, 1988 Long Island performance will soon be released as 'Zappa ’88: The Last U.S. Show.'
Today, it was announced that the 48-track recordings of the Frank Zappa ensemble's March 25, 1988 concert at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY – Zappa's final performance in the United States – will be released as a new live album, Zappa ’88: The Last U.S. Show.
With the announcement came a preview of the album, a recording of the Zappa ensemble's performance of the 1966 Zappa classic, "I Ain't Got No Heart."
You can check the recording out below.
Set for a June 18 release via Zappa Records/UMC, Zappa ’88: The Last U.S. Show was produced by Ahmet Zappa and Zappa archivist Joe Travers.
The first posthumous archival release from the ‘88 touring band, the album features 29 unreleased performances, including two much-talked about covers – Zappa's offbeat versions of The Allman Brothers Band's "Whipping Post" and Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" – from other shows, the former from a March 16, 1988 show in Providence, Rhode Island and the latter from a March 23, 1988 show in Towson, Maryland.
The album will be available digitally, or on 2 CD, 4LP 180-gram vinyl – itself available on both black vinyl or limited edition 180g purple vinyl – exclusively via the official Frank Zappa online store or uDiscover.
