I scored this 2005 Epiphone G-400 SG Custom on eBay for $270 plus $30 shipping, and as I was leaving town when it arrived, I only had a few minutes to test it. I noticed it was wired kind of funny, but as all three pickups appeared to work, I put it away until I could spend more time with it. That was a big mistake. A month later, I discovered only two pickups were audible, and the wiring was so bad that I didn’t have a clue how to rewire it. (The previous owner had failed to mention he had modified the guitar heavily.) I put an ad on craigslist.org seeking repair options, and a local fellow quoted me a price of $40 without even looking at the guitar. That sounded good to me! He ended up rewiring the SG like a pro, and it sounds great. The moral? Always check out your eBay prizes thoroughly before leaving signing off on them.
