New York Guitar Festival

From January 14 to February 8, the sixth installment of the New York Guitar Festival turned the Big Apple into Guitartown, USA. Featuring some 60 guitarists performing 20 concerts in seven venues, the event presented artists of all styles, from the Blues Fallin’ Down Like Rain concert series (that paid tribute to the music of Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James, Charley Patton, and Elizabeth Cotten) to the Guitar Marathon (a celebration of 450 years of Spanish guitar) to The Nebraska Project (a homage to Bruce Springsteen’s iconic Nebraska album).

“The festival aims to promote interest in the guitar by highlighting emerging talent, fostering eclectic collaborations, and supporting outreach programs that bring music into New York City’s public school,” says NYGF founder and artistic director David Spelman. “I feel this year was an overwhelming success on all counts!”
