Since 1625 the Parcé family has resided in the small French town of Banyuls-sur-Mer, located along the Mediterranean Sea just north of the border with Spain, where they produce a variety of stunning Banyuls wines. Their Cuvée Spéciale is a fortified red dessert wine that, in exceptional vintage years like 1995, when conditions were near perfect in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, rivals a fine Port.
Like most Banyuls wines, the 1995 Cuvée Speciale pairs wonderfully with chocolate desserts, exhibiting its own bold flavors of dark chocolate, cherry, and raspberry, with hints of clementine orange and cinnamon on the finish. Although hard to find, Domaine Du Mas Blanc Banyuls wines are worth seeking out, as they offer extraordinary value and pleasure.
