Grateful Dead fans have a lot of music to look forward to this fall. On September 9, Rhino will release Spring 1990 (The Other One), a 23-disc box set that covers eight complete shows from the group's 1990 East Coast tour. Included in the set is one of the most sought-after shows in the Dead's canon: the March 29, 1990, show at Nassau Coliseum, featuring saxophonist Branford Marsalis sitting in with the group.

In 1990, the Grateful Dead were starting their 25th year as a band, a celebration that they kicked off with a three-week jaunt through the U.S. East Coast. That tour—featuring Jerry Garcia, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Brent Mydland, and Bob Weir—was considered by many to be one of the Dead's finest. Selections from the tour were presented two years ago on the Spring 1990 boxed set, which has long been sold out.

Spring 1990 (The Other One) delivers even more great moments from the tour. It features 159 tracks, including the Dead's first-ever performance of the Band's well-known song "The Weight," concert staples like "Tennessee Jed" and "Sugar Magnolia," covers like Dylan's "When I Paint My Masterpiece" and the Beatles' "Revolution," and rare gems, including the band's first live performance of "Loose Lucy" in 16 years. Also on that tour, the Dead played many of the songs from Built to Last, which was released the previous fall and would become their final studio album.

The inclusion of the Marsalis show only sweetens the deal. The entire second set is one continuous highlight, especially the breathtaking version of "Dark Star." Says Marsalis, "When I agreed to sit in with the Dead in 1990, I didn't know what to expect, aurally or visually. What I experienced was what I remembered music to be in my younger years, something that I'd felt was lost long ago. Process over product. No set lists, light shows and costumes required, but music first. It's an experience I will always remember with great fondness." In addition to its appearance in the box set, the Marsalis show will be available separately on the three-disc set Wake Up to Find Out.

The recordings have been mixed from the master 24-track analog tapes by the band's longtime audio engineer, John Cutler, who originally recorded the shows, Jeffrey Norman, and David Glasser who mastered each show to HDCD specs.

Spring 1990 (The Other One) will be limited to 9,000 individually numbered box sets and is currently available for pre-order exclusively from Dead.net for $239.98. Presented in a stunning box, similar in design to the first Spring 1990 release, the music is accompanied by a 144-page paperback book with essays by Nick Meriwether and Blair Jackson, three art prints by Jessica Dessner, replica ticket stubs and backstage passes for all eight shows, and a few other surprises.

The collection will also be available for HD digital download (192kHz/24 bit) on the same date, exclusively at Dead.net for $199.98. The three-disc Wake Up to Find Out set will be available for a suggested list price of $34.98 on CD and $19.99 digitally.
