The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band is offering another "sneak peek" into what they have planned for fans before their new album, Lay It On Down [Concord], drops on August 4, 2017.
Today, the group is exclusively premiering "Diamonds & Gold" for the Guitar Player community.
Lay It On Down showcases a more roots-based, Americana sound from Shepherd, and the guitarist was inspired by several genres and musical eras during its inception. The album was recorded super-old-school — live in the studio to analog tape — in Shepherd’s hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana, and it was produced by Shepherd and Marshall Altman.
“There were no rehearsals or anything," says Shepherd. "We just went into the studio, set up, and ran the songs down. We all played together in the same room, recorded to two-inch tape, and did as few overdubs as possible — just trying to keep it as organic as we could. The stuff that we do is very instinct- and feel-oriented, and it's about capturing moments that happen between people. You can only get that by actually playing together and letting the creative process flow.”
