B.B. King played a style of electric blues that was entirely his own. From his choice of notes to his distinctive style of phrasing and tremendous finger vibrato, King carved out his own place in the pantheon of blues guitarists, and from the Sixties onward, playing like B.B. has been a goal for many blues players.

If that’s your goal, then this lesson from Guitar Lick Dojo can go a long way toward helping you. It presents 10 blues licks in the style of B.B. King and shows how to play a full solo à la King over a 12-bar blues in the key of C using the major and minor pentatonic scales. Along the way, you learn the theory behind the licks, with tab provided in the video.

By the end of this lesson, you’ll have an arsenal of tasty B.B. King–style licks and, best of all, an idea of how to use them.
