Last month, veteran Chicago roots guitarist Joel Paterson released Let It Be Guitar! Joel Paterson Plays The Beatles, a beautiful album of jazz and rockabilly-inflected instrumental takes on some gems from the Beatles catalog.
With the recent 50th anniversary of the Fab Four's legendary rooftop concert though, Paterson and his band thought that - to really showcase the album's unique sonic blend, as applied to the music of the world's most famous rock group - why not do their own rooftop performance?
Luckily, Chicago vinyl presser Smashed Plastic loved the idea, and lent the band its rooftop for the cause. You can check out the end result - stirring performances of "And I Love Her" and "All My Loving" - below.
“This is the guitar record I’ve always wanted to make," Paterson said of Let It Be Guitar!. "I love the Beatles and their artistry and attention to detail in the recording studio - and I love all things guitar. So, I had a great time diving into these amazing songs, coming up with my own arrangements, and at the same time paying tribute to some of my favorite guitarists and vintage recording techniques of yesteryear.”
Let It Be Guitar! Joel Paterson Plays The Beatles is out now on Bloodshot Records. You can pick up a copy for yourself right here.
