Our friends at Chicago Music Exchange created this video in which guitarist Alex Chadwick plays 100 famous guitar riffs in one take, giving you a chronological history of rock and roll.
The songs referenced range from Chet Atkins’ 1953 hit “Mr. Sandman” to St. Vincent’s 2011 track “Cruel.” In the span between those two songs, Chadwick plays riffs from tracks by Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, early Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Derek and the Dominos, Deep Purple, Queen, Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughan and dozens more.
To see the full detailed list of all the artists, keys, and year of each song played here, visit 100riffs.com, where you can also see the pedalboard, guitar and amp used in this video, and view lessons for many of the songs.
