Guitar virtuoso Steve Vai invites No Guitar Is Safe into his home studio to explore the playing techniques and composition approaches that power the songs on Modern Primitive/Passion and Warfare 25th Anniversary Edition. The album, which features a newly remastered version of his 1990 album Passion and Warfare and his “lost” album Modern Primitive, comes out today.
Modern Primitive features 13 unreleased song sketches and works-in-progress Vai created in the time between his 1984 debut, Flex-Able, and Passion and Warfare.
“If you listen to those first two albums, it sounds like they were made by two different people,” Vai told me in his cover feature for Guitar Player’s June 2016 issue. “Modern Primitive will deliver all this music that was created between those releases. It’s sort of like the missing link between the two records. It’s Cro-Magnon Vai.”
Vai is currently on his 25th anniversary tour for Passion and Warfare. The tour will visit the U.K. and Europe and conclude July 30. For tour dates and tickets, visit Vai.com.
