At just 19 years old, Canada’s Sophia Radisch has generated tons of support from fans and gear manufacturers. Gibson, Marshall, GHS Strings, Singular Sound, and PreSonus have all added her to their endorsement rosters, and Grindrod Amps even made her “The Face of Grindrod Amps 2017.” That’s a lot of industry engagement for a singer/songwriter and guitarist without a major recording contract. She has also brought heavyweights such as guitarist Glen Drover (Megadeth), and producers Rob Fraboni (Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Rolling Stones) and Narada Michael Walden into her creative orbit. Here’s a peek into how she made all of this happen…

GET SOCIAL

“For the past six years, I have been constantly gigging and producing content for my social-media outlets,” says Radisch. “Facebook generates a lot of fans for me, and my website [sophiaradisch.com] is very interactive. I put up a lot of simple iPhone clips of me performing—just to give people an idea of what I sound like, and what I can do as a solo performer. Word of mouth is still so critical to building a career today.”

GET RECOGNIZED

“Getting public recognition just comes down to being unique, being myself, and putting myself out there. I also know that you have to have a visual image, and mine is wearing a top hat—because I adore Slash—and big boots like Kiss. People seem to love that. In addition, I’m lucky to have a very unique distinctive voice that people seem to really like and appreciate, and I’m constantly writing songs.”

BE BRAVE

“I ended up writing a song with Narada Michael Walden, because I called his studio. I couldn’t afford him as a producer, so I said, ‘I’d really love to work with him, so I’m going to work towards getting that opportunity someday.’ A few days later, he called back and said, ‘Let’s write a song together.’ That was amazing.”
