Are Foo Fighters breaking up?
The question has been buzzing around various media outlets ever since frontman Dave Grohl performed solo at the Academy Awards on February 28, playing the Beatles’ “Blackbird” during the show’s Memoriam tribute to industry members who died over the past year.
The rumor ramped up the following day when the New York Post’s Page Six quoted a source who confirmed Grohl was leaving, and that his plans had angered drummer Taylor Hawkins.
“The band is billing it as a ‘break,’ but it’s totally Dave going solo, and Taylor is pissed about it,” a source told the paper.
In the early hours of March 2, the group alerted fans via Twitter that a big announcement would be forthcoming.
Last night, the band delivered its message in the form of a video. The good news is that Foo Fighters really are on an extended break following last year’s lengthy world tour. The bad news? Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees is their new lead singer.
