Motörhead bassist Lemmy Kilmister was among the dearly departed musicians honored at last night’s Grammy Awards ceremony.

Foo Fighters guitarist Dave Grohl, a friend of Lemmy’s, paid tribute to the bassist.

“Many of us play rock and roll, but a rare few among us are rock and roll,” Grohl told the audience. “Lemmy Kilmister was rock and roll. He was a rebel, an outsider, one of a kind, and a way of life.”

After speaking, Grohl introduced the Hollywood Vampires, who performed their new single, “As Bad As I Am,” before launching into Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades.” The band, which features singer Alice Cooper and guitarists Joe Perry and Johnny Depp, are joined here by Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan. Hollywood Vampires released their self-titled debut album last September.
