GP Presents John Scofield April 25 - April 28 in San Francisco – win tickets
Enter for your chance to see a double bill of deep fusion grooves at San Fran's SFJAZZ Center
GP Presents and SFJAZZ have teamed up to promote some unforgettable John Scofield performances from solo on location at Grace Cathedral to dance floor shows at Miner Auditorium, and we’re gearing up for another one of those.
This time, it’s a double bill of deep fusion grooves with jam masters Lettuce providing deep pockets for Scofield to mine. Each show is unique and we never know quite what to expect, but his latest album is a collection of Grateful Dead covers called Uncle John’s Band, so it’s a good bet we’ll hear a bit of that on the Dead’s home stomping grounds.
Scofield returns to the SFJAZZ Center for five shows over four nights from April 25 to 28, beginning with two concerts on Thursday and Friday with his trio featuring bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Nasheet Waits. On Saturday and Sunday, Scofield will reunite with the Lettuce for three throwdowns featuring the funky Adam Smirnoff on guitar.
We’ve presented this pairing previously and it’s sheer pleasure to hear Sco’s jazzy melodic flights weave around each funky vamp Smirnoff lays down. When “Schmeeans” and his gang get to grooving and Sco starts flowing stream-of conscious-style over the top, hip bones start shaking and the place is sure to pop.
Guitar Player Presents will be doing a promotion in the lobby on Saturday where we’ll be passing out free issues and Martin strings to players. We’ve even got some free packs of Martin’s new Luxe Kovar strings, so be sure to drop by on the way in.
