The Los Angeles College of Music is offering two week-long intensive summer musical programs designed to give teens and college students interested in music as a career a leg up on the competition.
Participants will gain access to top industry leaders and talent associated with Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow, Ke$ha, American Idol, Sugarcult, Flo Rida, Britney Spears, The Grammy’s, Smashing Pumpkins, the Black Eyed Peas, Selena Gomez, Dancing With the Stars, songwriters of the Grammy-nominated “Everything is Awesome” from the Lego movie and more.
LACM’s Summer Xperience programs include Music Performance and Music Production (Session 1: June 22-26, 9am-5pm), as well as Songwriting and the 6th annual Drummer’s Reality Camp, hosted by LACM and DrumChannel.com (Session 2: June 29-July 3, 9am-5pm). Each session can be taken individually or a multi-session discount is available for those who take both sessions.
Geared towards music enthusiasts of all skill levels, the program includes master classes, private lessons, student recitals, large ensembles and recording sessions taught by LACM faculty and current top musicians, songwriters and producers. Participants leave inspired, transformed and with skills to drive their music forward.
"Small class sizes and intensive one-on-one coaching make this a program that is truly unique," says Erin Workman, LACM Songwriting & Music Business Department Co-Chair and Songwriter/Artist Development/Publisher for Drake Bell, Miley Cyrus, Zac Efron, Selena Gomez, and Ashley Tisdayle. "I’ve seen students go from never having performed on stage and holding great fear about it to fronting a band and discovering their ability to engage an audience in an exciting way – all in 5 days. Students who have never been able to record in a professional studio before walk away with 2-3 recorded original songs, with the confidence built during the sessions to elevate their artistry to a new level."
Whether students want to enter the world of recording and music production, get intensive training in performance technique for guitar, bass, drums, keyboards or vocals, get one-of-a kind immersion into the art and craft of songwriting or sign up for the 6th annual drummer’s reality camp, they will be able to get up close and personal at a renowned music school with some of the most respected names in the music industry.
LACM was recently named one of "The 20 Best Music Conservatories in the U.S." by TheBestSchools.org. Of the contemporary music programs listed on the rankings, LACM ranks #1 on the West Coast.
All LACM Summer Xperience students under the age of 18 will be paired in peer groups, led by an adult LACM mentor. Their mentor will assist them in finding their classes and private lessons, and help them navigate the resources available to students at LACM. This mentor will be available to the student throughout each day, from the moment they arrive on campus to the moment they leave each evening. LACM employs a check-in and check-out system to ensure they’ve been picked up by a guardian or chaperoned back to their hotel at the end of the day. LACM also is a family-friendly campus, and welcomes the parents, guardians and family members of our LACM Summer Xperience students on campus. From 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the LACM Summer Xperience Family Lounge is open to any parents or guardians that would like to remain on campus while their student attends their class sessions.
Additionally, students that complete any 2014 LACM Summer Xperience and subsequently enroll in any full-time program offered by LACM beginning no later than Spring, 2016, will be eligible for a tuition credit equal to the amount paid for the LACM Summer Xperience program. This credit will be applied toward the first quarter of full-time academic program enrollment.
Costs for Music Performance, Producer and Songwriter programs are $1095 per week. The Drummer’s Reality Camp is $895 for the week. There is a $300 discount if students participate in both weeks.
