Five Famous Pure Pentatonic Licks

Image placeholder title

Guitar instructor Robert Baker went searching for pure pentatonic licks, and he came back with examples from five famous songs.

“I stuck with strictly pure pentatonics,” Robert says. “So not the blues—we’re not adding any notes. They needed to be 100 percent pentatonic.”

The licks comes from ZZ Top’s “La Grange,” AC/DC’s “Back in Black,” Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” Metallica’s “Seek & Destroy” and Ozzy Osbourne’s “No More Tears.”

Bear in mind, these are not the main riffs but stand-out licks that appear in the songs. Robert plays through the licks and talks about each as he demonstrates how to play it.
