Guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Adam Wakefield has been hailed by industry tastemakers and lauded by Rolling Stone as the “roots community’s newest Renaissance man.”
On July 26, Wakefield will release Breaking Strings Live, his debut live EP, via Average Joes Entertainment. The eight-track release features riveting performances of Wakefield’s most popular tracks from his recent Americana-charting album, Gods & Ghosts.
Guitar Player is pleased to present the new album’s accompanying “live road video,” which features the Gods & Ghosts track “Breaking Strings” along with video of Wakefield on the road.
Recorded on tour this past winter, Breaking Strings Live captures Wakefield’s raw, powerful, soulful vocals and highlights his musicianship and engaging storytelling.
“Gods & Ghosts was the first time I recorded a record before road-testing the songs,” Wakefield explains. “Most of the time, we try to re-create the vibe in the studio onstage, but we decided to play around with the instrumentations and arrangements for a few songs. ‘Good Morning Sunday’ for instance, we completely re-worked from a country 3/4 time ballad to a 4/4-time Memphis soul groove. I’m excited for folks to hear what we did with some of these songs for the live show. We caught some great moments in these live recordings, especially when the band stretches out in some of the solo sections.”
The Gods & Ghosts track “Breaking Strings” has been receiving high praise since its initial release. It was recognized by NPR’s Station Breaks as one of the best new songs of 2019. Likewise, Mattson Rainer of KNBT in New Braunfels, Texas, commented, “Adam Wakefield sounds like an artist we should have been playing for 20 years. The man has soul and is a hugely welcome addition to the scene.”
Named one of Pandora’s New Artists to Watch in 2019, Wakefield has had his music featured on Apple Music’s Country Roads and A-List: Americana playlists, and on YouTube Music’s Modern Day Outlaws and New Americana playlists, among others. He has also announced additional tour dates through the end of September, including shows with 10-time CMA Musician of the Year Mac McAnally, as well as an official artist showcase at Americanafest 2019
