Tony MacAlpine says he is doing much better in his battle against colon cancer.

In a new Facebook post, the guitarist gives an update on his health and announces a run of West Coast dates in October, including several opening spots on Steve Vai’s Passion and Warfare 25th Anniversary tour.

MacAlpine announced in August 2015 that he was suffering from colon cancer. His illness forced him to cancel a European tour scheduled for last October and November. He subsequently had surgery to remove a tumor from his intestine and received additional treatment.

“It’s been a while since I have reached out to you, but now the good fortune of health and timing is allowing me to do so,” the guitarist writes on Facebook. “I have been feeling back to normal and tests indicate that all is well in medical land. Deep and sincere thanks to you all for your wonderful support through this very difficult last 12 months.

“I will be playing a run of US West Coast shows in October with my trio: Aquiles Priester (drums) and Bjorn Englen (bass). There will be some solo / headline shows, and some very cool shows supporting Steve Vai!

“We are looking forward to seeing you at the shows. I will be playing some carefully selected material from my repertoire. The band and I are very anxious to play for even more of you around the world in the next 12 months.”

It’s been a rough year for MacAlpine. In addition to his health problems, his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. An all-star benefit concert for MacAlpine and his family was held at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles on December 12 featuring Vai, Paul Gilbert, Zakk Wylde, Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan, Derek Sherinian and John 5.

In February this year, MacAlpine appealed to fans in Mexico to help him retrieve four guitars and a pedalboard that had been stolen from him and made available for sale in the country.

Guitar Player wishes Tony and his family continued good health.
