For Slash, it’s 1985 all over again, at least in the sense that this week finds the guitar hero rocking three of the iconic Sunset Strip clubs where he paid his dues back in the mid-’80s, when he was a hungry young guitar player on the rise with Guns N’ Roses. Nowadays, his band is Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, and to celebrate Guitar Center’s 50th anniversary, Slash and his posse brought their raucous set (a high-decibel blend of Guns N’ Roses classics, tunes from Slash’s current band’s new album, World on Fire, and other songs) to the Troubadour, the Roxy, and the Whisky a Go Go. The Roxy set was filmed for a 90-minute concert special to be aired exclusively on DIRECTV’s Audience Network (channel 239) on November 9th at 8:00pm.
The event at the Roxy also featured a black carpet (because red just ain’t rock and roll enough) on which several notables made appearances, including the Cult’s Billy Duffy, Slash’s wife Perla Hudson, Puddle of Mudd lead singer Wes Scantlin, and former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan. Other celebrities in attendance included ZZ Top guitarist/frontman Billy Gibbons and his wife Rita, Courtney Sixx (wife of Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki), Kiss’s Gene Simmons and his children Nick and Sophie, Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, model Amber Rose, and actors Danny Trejo and Leslie Mann.
