Joe Satriani has just released Episode 3 in his series of videos about the making of Shockwave Supernova, his new album, which comes out July 24.

In the video, shown below, Satch and engineer/co-producer John Cuniberti talk about the demos that Joe made for the album.

As Joe explains, “When it comes to demos, sometimes I don’t really want to spring them on the band too early. I’ve done records where the first time the band hears the song is 11:30 on the morning that we record it.

“This time around I was thinking, I’d better prepare these guys for this,” he continues, noting that the band was accustomed to hearing him play his one guitar part on the road and might not be thinking in terms of multitracking their parts and creating more complex arrangements. “But this is a new situation,” he says. “We are going to be ovedubbing. I want them to think like me.”

The video also features exclusive studio footage and music from the album.

In addition to Episode 3, we’ve included the previous two Shockwave Supernova making-of videos. In episode one, Satch talks about the meaning behind the album. He’s joined by his band, keyboardist and guitarist Mike Keneally, drummer Marco Minnemann and bassist Bryan Beller. In episode two, Satch and Cuniberti talk about bringing in Keneally, Minnemann and Beller for a unique sound.

Satch has also released the album tracks “Shockwave Supernova” and “If There Is No Heaven” as previews for the upcoming album. Shockwave Supernova is available for pre-order through Amazon and iTunes and will also be available as a vinyl double-album.
