It’s always a treat to see Joe Satriani and Steve Vai perform together. But it’s especially unusual to see them playing on a blues song.
But that’s just what the two famed shredders did recently when they jammed on “The Thrill Is Gone” as a tribute to B.B. King, who died May 14. Satch and Vai were joined by Animals as Leaders guitarist Tosin Abasi and Dethklok’s Brendon Small for the performance at LA’s Wiltern theater on June 12.
The performance was part of Benefit for Cliff III, a fundraiser for music-industry veteran Cliff Cultreri, who is suffering from a host of auto-immune and connective-tissue disorders.
The guitarists were joined by Satch’s backing band, which includes guitarist/keyboardist/singer Mike Keneally, drummer Marco Minnemann and bassist Bryan Beller.
