Treble and bass lovers unite for the godfather of fusion guitar with bassist Victor Bailey (Weather Report) and drummer Lenny White (Return to Forever). The super power trio has developed serious chemistry over a productive history including a pair of CDs recorded under Coryell’s name—2005’s Electric and 2006’s Traffic.

Coryell’s music gets filed under jazz, but of all the famous fusion cats, Coryell probably has the most rock in his delivery. He’s performed with Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix. CBW’s live show blends virtuosic original compositions with interpretations of jazz and classic rock standards. Originals include go-for-the-throat throwdowns like “Judith Loves Jazz,” “Door #3” and “Overruled.” Crowd-pleasing covers include Thelonious Monk’s “Misterioso” and Hendrix’s "Manic Depression.” Occasionally CBW offers up a gentle acoustic respite on tunes including “Jake’s Lullaby” and “Joyce’s Favorite.”

According to Coryell, the key to capturing emotional jazz is a deep understanding of blues.

“To me, you have to understand the blues on a fundamental level,” he told GP in 2012. “So much so, that when you play jazz, it doesn’t necessarily sound like the blues—but it sounds like something important. It’s not your typical rock guitar player taking pentatonic scales and copying Jeff Beck, or Eric Clapton’s copying of B. B. King.”

CBW performs at 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday, September 24th and 25th. GP Presents will be onsite on the second date with free magazines, D’Addario strings, and a Hartman Pedals raffle.
