Guitar Player Presents and (((folkYEAH!))) are stoked to welcome sonic innovator Adrian Belew back to the Bay Area. Belew’s contributions to King Crimson, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, and many more are the stuff of legend, but while his old mates in King Crimson are on tour celebrating that band’s remote past, Belew’s got his eyes squared firmly on the future. He’s priming the pump for his potentially revolutionary app—FLUX:FX.
The basic concept of FLUX is to hear Belew’s new music differently each time. Instead of buying a single, static recording, you get an Adrian app experience that plays short snippets of music. A snippet might feature a particular guitar solo one time, and then a different take the next. Hear a sound you like, and you can click to find out what gear he used to make it. Cool!
Belew is famous for the way he uses his signature Parker Fly and myriad tweaker toys to create otherworldly sounds. In fact, Belew was recently featured in guitarplayer.com’s Five Guitarists with Massive Pedalboards.
Belew will give GP the full skinny on FLUX after the show, so keep your eyes peeled for that feature in the January issue.
In the meantime, enjoy the explosive Adrian Belew Power trio featuring bassist Julie Slick and drummer Tobias Ralph. Belew let GP know that he plans to incorporate a few FLUX elements into the live show, which should be wild to witness. Come revel in Adrian’s endless enthusiasm at the fabulous Chapel, which won the SF Weekly’s 2013 award for Best New Live Venue. Arrive early and enjoy dinner in the Chapel’s vibey, tasty restaurant, the Vestry.
For a chance to win a pair of tickets to see Adrian Belew click here and put "Belew" in the subject of your e-mail. Include a sentence about Belew and why you want to go. Phone contact greatly appreciated for confirmation. Winner must provide own transportation to the Chapel in San Francisco, CA, and have his or her own accommodations in the Bay Area on Wednesday, November 12.
