2011 marks the 35th Anniversary of the Santa Cruz Guitar Company by founding luthier Richard Hoover in 1976. Over three decades later, Hoover continues to employ his bench style building technique and traditional lutherie practices to complete approximately 700 guitars a year, all handcrafted with his team of 13 highly skilled luthiers in his small Santa Cruz, California, shop. In celebration of their big birthday this fall, SCGC is building a total of ten 35th Anniversary Commemorative Guitars. In the spirit of Richard’s western roots and love of cowboy lore, these limited 10 guitars will feature the darling Santa Cruz Cowgirl.

What’s her name? Well that’s up to SCGC’s fans and players! In order to include everyone in their celebration, Santa Cruz Guitar Company is holding a contest to ‘Name That Cowgirl.’ The winner takes home one of the rare 35th Anniversary Cowgirl Guitars with a retail value of $9,700!

To enter, contestants simply need to purchase a Santa Cruz Guitar Company 35th Anniversary tee shirt for $35 via the SCGC website. Once purchased, contestants will be prompted to ‘Name That Cowgirl’ inlayed on the guitar’s peghead and pictured on the website. The winning name will be selected based on originality and creativity, and all entries will be judged anonymously by the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. The winner will be selected on October 1st, 2011, and notified by Monday, October 3rd, 2011. All contest rules and regulations, as well as the entry form, will be available on the Santa Cruz Guitar Company website starting on July 21st 2011, to coincide with the 2011 Summer NAMM Show. These ten commemorative 35th Anniversary guitars are tastefully customized SCGC OOO models. Cocobolo back/sides and Italian Spruce tops compliment intricate, western-themed appointments and inlays which incorporate mother of pearl, scrimshaw and fossilized ivory.

Founded in 1976, the Santa Cruz Guitar Company brought boutique guitar making to the forefront of the steel string guitar business. Richard Hoover and his dedicated team of luthiers continue to guarantee the most sophisticated instruments of their kind, using responsibly harvested, old growth tone woods. In addition to an impeccable line of standard models famous for their maximum sustain and complexity of overtones, Santa Cruz Guitar Company is the leader in acoustic guitar customization. Due to worldwide demand, SCGC is currently backordered into the summer of 2012.
