The 6th Annual Us Air Guitar Championships - 21 City National Tour Presented By Touchtunes Set To Launch June 2008

US Air Guitar had its biggest year to date in ‘07. The search for America’s Chosen One spanned 14 cities, where enraptured audiences bore witness to some of the most electric displays of air guitar ever. In 2008, USAG is taking it to a whole new level... 21 cities. 500 to 1500 people per venue. Miraculous performances. Death-defying feats of strength. Water into wine. Pageantry that will dazzle the eye and overwhelm the senses. All the things that make rock and roll a spectacle; make rock and roll spectacular. Without the use of a single instrument. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE GIVE TO YOU THE 2008 US AIR GUITAR TOUR Presented By TouchTunes

Since its inception in 2003, the US Air Guitar Championships have grown from a modest two-city competition into a major national tour that reaches more cities, fans and competitors every year. The USAG has garnered international media attention including features in the New York Times, Associated Press, Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann, the BBC, CNN, ABC News, NPR, Rolling Stone, Howard Stern, The Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night With Conan O’Brian, MTV News, The Christian Science Monitor, Forbes and homepage video placements on YouTube, Myspace, AOL, and Yahoo! Last year’s US Finals in NY were judged by Malcolm Gladwell (author of The Tipping Point), former Saturday Night Live star Rachel Dratch, Jason Jones of The Daily Show, and ACLU lawyer Ben Wizner. We couldn’t believe it either.

The 2008 US Air Guitar Championship promises to be even better, with a bigger and badder 21-city bill and with TouchTunes as the official digital jukebox sponsor for the second consecutive year. Defending US Champion William Ocean of New York will have to fly a little higher as he looks to fend off the recent influx of promising young prospects. The Pacific Northwest and Mountain West regions have finally gotten called up to the big leagues, as Seattle, Portland, Aspen, Denver, and Salt Lake City have all been added to the fray. The threat of all this new talent will no doubt force the old guard to raise their games, making the anticipation surrounding this year’s competition downright combustible. Those who were lucky enough to be in attendance at the Sold Out Championship event last at New York’s Irving Plaza can attest to the elevated level of competition. McNallica of Boston made a believer out of judge Malcolm Gladwell with her thunderous display of sheer power. Big Rig of Houston showed his love of country, and a whole lot more, when he donned the stars and stripes…in Speedo form. Grizzled veteran, O.G., and father of 2, The Shred, turned back the clock and did the Nation’s Capitol proud. Ricky Stinkfingers of San Francisco, a virtual unknown, wrote himself into the annals of Air Guitar folklore with his debaucherous, unruly, straight savage performance in the offices of Rolling Stone Magazine, and then followed that up with an equally inspiring performance that night, winning over the crowd of thousands. And The Rockness Monster defied gravity itself, as he looked to the heavens and walked out onto a sea of people.

In 2008, USAG brings the Title-Belt event to the city by the Bay. For the first time ever, San Francisco will host the US Air Guitar Championship Final. We hear they’ve been missing some muscle* over there. Not to worry. USAG hits it out of the park every time.

Each US Regional will each consist of two rounds. In Round 1, each competitor performs to a song of their own choosing. In Round 2, the top competitors from Round 1 perform to a surprise compulsory song. In each round, contestants perform for one minute of a song and are judged on a combination of technical merit, stage presence, and “airness." All guitars must be invisible. In each city, the jury is a panel of independent judges that are hand picked by US Air Guitar. The results of the jury cannot be protested.

One winner from each city, and defending champ William Ocean will be brought to San Francisco in August 2008 to compete in the US Air Guitar Finals for the crown of US Air Guitar Champion. The 2008 US Champ will then be sent to Oulu, Finland later that month to represent the USA in the World Championships, where he or she will compete against national champions from all around the world.

Founded in 2003, US Air Guitar is the official Air Guitar Association of the United States and is responsible for operating the US Air Guitar Championships, official Regional events, and specialized championships. US Air Guitar is devoted to taking our nation's unofficial pastime out of the bedroom and putting it up on the world stage. US Air Guitar is an official member of the World Air Guitar Association. Entering its sixth year in the US and its eleventh year world-wide, official national championships currently are held in the USA, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and the United Arab Emirates, with more countries participating every year. The 2008 Air Guitar World Championships will take place this August 20 - 22 in Oulu, Finland.
