Louisiana bluesman and conservation advocate Tab Benoit has won the Blues Foundation’s 2013 Blue Music Award for Contemporary Blues Male Artist. The premier blues music event in the world, the Blues Music Awards were held Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Benoit’s latest recording, Medicine, was released April 26, 2011, on Telarc, a division of Concord Music Group. The 11-track recording features seven Benoit originals co-written with ace songwriter Anders Osborne. Engineered by David Z, Medicine spotlights the work of keyboardist Ivan Neville, drummer Brady Blade and bassist Corey Duplechin. Fiddler/singer Michael Doucet of BeauSoleil makes a special appearance on three tracks. Legacy: The Best of Tab Benoit, a 14-song compilation of recordings from Benoit’s years, so far, on the Telarc label, was released April 3, 2012. Benoit is currently working a his next Telarc release.
