Steven Halpern 30 Years of Healing Music

You may have heard of the genre Steven Halpern unwittingly created in the ’70s: New Age. Long before Yanni, Kitaro, and Vangelis set up shop behind Wakemanesque keyboard fortresses, Halpern and a few colleagues had hit on ancient, non-Western uses of music. Music, disconnected from the idea of entertainment, plugged instead into the body, mind, and spirit. Much of what sprung up in response to Halpern’s unexpected commercial success — the New Age craze — arguably had less lofty goals.
