In this month’s Master Class, Greg Howe shows you sly ways to avoid the physically challenging technique of crosspicking. If you want to get good at crosspicking, though, there’s simply no substitute for practice—and there’s probably no better sensei for this string-jumping technique than Dixie Dregs founder and Deep Purple guitarist Steve Morse. Why? Because Morse’s crosspicked riffs—such as this beautiful etude—are so damn melodic, they probably have Bach smiling in his grave. And when it sounds this good, you’re more apt to actually practice it. Play this however you prefer—clean, overdriven, or on acoustic—and use alternating up/down pick strokes throughout.
Working in close collaboration with designer Devon Turnbull of Ojas speakers, Jason Ojeda of Global Audio recently created a one of a kind high-powered audiophile sound system for community-based hospitality and performance space, Public Records.
