Following a spring East Coast run, a string of West Coast summer dates, and a headlining slot at the Fuji Rock Festival, the best is yet to come for Steve Kimock and his riveting new band, featuring Parliament Funkadelic co-founder Bernie Worrell. Today Kimock announced the first leg of his fall tour, which begins September 27 in Columbus, OH, and heads West.
“If you’ve grown a taste for the music Kimock has produced over the years, you owe it to yourself to catch one of these upcoming shows...,” declares Jambase. “If you’re new to Kimock and his music, now is the time...”
The powerful quartet’s all-star lineup, also featuring Wally Ingram (Sheryl Crow, David Lindley) on drums and bassist Andy Hess (Gov't Mule, Black Crowes), plays compelling new material, dynamic covers, as well as freshly showcased works from Kimock's extensive 30-year catalog. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer/keyboardist Worrell adds a new dimension, bringing crowd favorites from his tenure with the Talking Heads and P-Funk while pushing further with the new music he is producing with Kimock.
Kimock recently released a free live EP featuring songs culled from his first run with the new band this spring. A sonic snapshot of serious grooves, stirring improvisations, heavy funk and tight-as-a-drum rock and roll, the EP includes several Kimock originals, including the classic “One For Brother Mike,” “Thing One,” and a new tune, “Hey Man;” as well as choice covers including the mash-up of The Beatles’ “Come Together” into “The Thrill is Gone,” and Worrell singing Funkadelic’s “Super Stupid.” The free live EP is available for download HERE.
A master of improvisation for nearly four decades, Steve Kimock has been an inspiring force in live music with his transcendent guitar speak, voiced through electric, acoustic, lap, and fretless guitars. While one can say that his genre is rock, no one niche has ever confined him. Instead, through the years, he’s explored various sounds and style based on what’s moved him at the time, whether it’s blues or jazz; funk or folk; psychedelic or boogie; gypsy or prog-rock; traditional American or world fusion.
